Hosta prices vary a lot and the new varieties from the U.S. are usually expensive and in short supply. The price generally comes down after a few years if there are sufficient numbers grown of a particular variety.

A lot of the new Hostas are grown in laboratories around the world. The tissue culture labs can produce large numbers in a short time and will allow the plants to become less expensive. It is not possible to predict which new Hosta will be affordable and which variety will stay at a high price.
